Owen Howard, born in Durham, North Carolina, has always seen science as more than just a subject—it’s been a source of wonder since childhood. Some of his earliest and most formative memories are tied to museum visits, especially to places like the Chicago Field Museum and the Smithsonian Institution’s Museum of Natural History. Surrounded by exhibits of ancient fossils, cutting-edge technology, and complex biological systems, he found himself captivated by both the mechanics of life and the tools used to study it.

That fascination eventually narrowed into a focused academic path. Now an Honors student at Florida State University, Owen is studying Computational Biology, a field that allows him to explore the intersection of biology and computer science. He sees it as the perfect combination of his dual passions—using data-driven approaches to answer biological questions and solve problems that matter in the real world.

Though his studies are rigorous, Owen values balance. He carves out time to enjoy one of his favorite parts of campus life: FSU sports. Whether it’s cheering on the Seminoles at a football game in Doak Campbell Stadium, a weekend baseball matchup at Dick Howser, or a high-energy basketball game at the Tucker Center, he feels right at home in the stands, soaking in the camaraderie and school spirit.

Driven by curiosity and grounded in a deep appreciation for both science and community, Owen hopes to channel his education into research that contributes to fields like genomics, neuroscience, or disease modeling. For now, he’s focused on learning, growing, and making the most of every opportunity Florida State has to offer.
